Gluten Free Diet – What You Should Know

Gluten is a combination of a variety of proteins that is found most often in wheat and other grains like rye and barley. In baked goods it adds the chewiness and texture to the products. It is also used in other foods as a thickener for broths and soups, protein supplement, and flavor enhancer. Some develop an intolerance or allergy to gluten and have to go on a gluten free diet. This happens because your body is unable to break down or digest the gluten protein. If you are new to this type of diet here are some things that you should know.

Gluten free is not more nutritious

Many people have the misconception that foods that are gluten free have more minerals and vitamins but this is not true. You can develop mineral and vitamin deficiencies quickly if you do not have the guidance of a nutritionist. Most of the foods that are not fortified or enriched with nutrients like iron and folic acid that wheat flours are. When you get rid of gluten, it will often mean adding more fat and sugar to your diet. When you take out the gluten the food will probably not taste as good so they add extra sodium, fat, and sugar to make up for the lack of taste. For example, a regular blueberry muffin has 340 calories with 24 grams of sugar and 17 grams of fat. Gluten free blueberry muffins have 370 calories and 31 grams of sugar and 13 grams of fat.

You could gain weight

Some think that when they go on gluten free diets that they will start to lose weight but there is no evidence that going gluten free is a good strategy to lose the extra weight. The reason that this diet could lead to obesity or being overweight is the extra calories, fat, and sugar. Those that have celiac disease, which is caused by gluten, will often gain weight when they first go free of gluten. This is because of the damage that gluten had caused to their small intestine prevents their body from digesting food the right way. Once gluten has been given up their digestive system will heal so they can absorb key nutrients and vitamins from the foods they are eating.

Your grocery bill may increase

Food that is free of this substance is more expensive that food that is not. It can be double the price or more. For example, a serving of regular brownies costs approximately 8 cents but for a serving of gluten free brownie is approximately 28 cents. One reason that they are more expensive is the added costs that the manufacturer incurs in order to meet labeling and certification regulations.

The Diet Plan of Female Wrestlers

Hello young ladies, hope all are doing great. Today I would like to discuss with you the diet plan of female wrestlers in India. As we all know how the amazing 'Phogat sisters' made India proud with their atypical interest in 'wrestling' a predominately male sport. The famous saying, “Behind every independent and successful woman is a father who blindly trusts their children and not the society” rightly describes the dedication and undying faith of an enthusiastic father for his children.

Now let's discuss the detailed diet plan with health benefits:

Diet Plan In detail

First thing in the morning is a glass of water on an empty stomach followed by some stretching and warm up exercises. Drinking water in the morning helps cleanse your bowel, detoxify your body and helps boost immunity. It increases appetite and raises the BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) by 24% thereby aid in weight loss and muscle tone.

Breakfast:

Sprout salad: The sprout salad can be easily prepared by a variety of sprouts available such as gram sprouts, moong bean, kidney beans, split peas etc. Sprouts are naturally nutritious wonder food, a rich source of Vitamin A, Vitamin K, Biotin, Iron and Zinc.

Including sprouts in your diet has varied health benefits like rejuvenating your skin, improvements collagen production, helps in detoxification process and prevats aging aging. So, go ahead and enjoy the mix and match of various sprout recipes to reap its benefits.

Fresh Fruits, Vegetables: Consuming fruits and vegetables rich diet brings your body with all the necessary nutrients vital for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Fresh vegetables are naturally low in calories and rich in dietary fiber, Vitamin A and C, Folic acid and Potassium.

Intake of food rich in Potassium like Soybeans, spinach, Lentils and Kidney beans etc helps maintain normal blood pressure. Dietary Fiber from Most vegetables reduces blood cholesterol levels and helps in forming the roughage which aids digestion. Folic acid rich food like broccoli, avocado, lentils etc stimulates the formation of red blood cells. Vitamin C rich citrus fruits have wound healing properties.

Milk, Soybeans: Cow's milk is considered the best diet for stronger bones and teeth as it offers a rich source of calcium and Vitamin D. It also has supplements like Potassium which helps in vaso-dilation theby lowering your blood pressure. The most important dietary change a healthy person should opt for is reducing the intake of sodium and optimizing the intake of potassium. The optimal quantity of 4069 mg of Potassium per day reduces the risk of heart diseases by 50% approx. Cow's milk is also designed for muscle-building.

Whole Soy foods are an excellent source of fiber, Calcium, Vitamin B Complex and omega-3 fatty acids. It is the only complete non-animal protein as it is a plant source of eight of essential amino acids. These foods provide us with high quality protein and are very low in saturated fat making it a healthy and complete meal in itself. Whole soybeans are the best as they contain isoflavonoids, and a diet rich in isoflavone phytochemicals forms a base for a balanced diet.

Dry Fruits: Raisins are high energy food supplements for wrestlers. They are well-known for gaining weight in a healthy way. They are ideal food for maintaining an athletic body as they provide the wrestlers with powerful boosts of energy. The high content of Iron and copper in raisins helps in the formation of red blood cells.

Almonds are rich in unsaturated fatty acids and contain filling fiber which keeps you full for a longer time. They are best consumed as snacks in between meals to keep your hunger pangs at bay. These beloved nuts contain a unique and protective phyto-ster antioxidant and a plant protein as well. When consumed along with raisins they complement each other.

Cheat days: Sometimes the wrestlers like to have breakfast of their choice like aaloo paratha with curd or other healthy variations. These cheat days are allowed to satisfify their cravings and follow the diet plan with utmost discipline.

So, this was all about the breakfast and snacks. Now let's discuss the meals in detail.

Main Course Regular meals: Wrestlers are prompted to eat regular meals which measure of 'daal' the nutritious and appetizing lentil preparation. These come under leguminous food, very rich in protein. It is advisable to include a mix of all dals in your diet without which a typical Indian meal is incomplete. White rice has some rich mineral content and can be consumed in moderate portion along with daal.

Various green leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli, turnip etc are cooked by simple methods to retain their nutritional value, color and flavor of food. Some vegetables are preferred to be ateen in their raw form and mixed together to form various salad preparations.

Chicken is included in diet plan of wrestlers for its high protein content. Protein is made up of amino acids which are the building blocks of our muscles. 1 gram per kg of body weight is the recommended amount of daily protein. The best part of eating chicken regularly is its addition to the wrestlers with high protein content for making their body more muscular and firm also keeping their body weight in control.

Indian whole wheat bread or Roti is consumed in dinner along with veggies, dal, chicken and salads for keeping fuller for longer time and still feeling active and light at the same time.

Mid Time Evening Snacks: A glass full of milk and seasonal fruits are good enough to keep your hunger pangs at bay. Almonds and raisins should be taken to give energy shots if whenever required.

Pre Workout Diet: Milk and Seasonal fruits provide the wrestlers with the energy required for the rigorous workout sessions.

Post Workout Diet: A post work out meal of soy protein, fruits and lots of water is what required for replenishing the muscle glycogen depleted during workout. Fruits and water hydrates the dehydrated body tissues.

Last but not the least, a glass full of milk before bed time relaxes your tired muscles and makes you fall asleep like a baby. Milk contains Tryptophan (an amino acid which helps induce sleep) and melatonin (a hormone that regulates sleep cycle).

A wrestler's diet is a versatile and balanced one devoid of high calorie and junk foods. Fresh and seasonal food is of much relevance. Wrestlers are advised to avoid food which is excessively sour and spiced like pickles, chutneys and chat as they are thought to cause lethargy and sensual arousal.

Hats off to the Dangal sisters for their taboo smashing move to become successful wrestlers and the unquenching thirst for achieving their goal. More power to you women, go ahead and catch your dreams.

Are Carbs Killing Your Brain?

It is OK that it may be a bit dramatic, but maybe not as dramatic as you would think. The latest research looks to confirm among other things, that too much grains can increase your chances of serious cognitive disorders.

We are all too familiar with Alzheimer's and Dementia. We all hope it will not happen to us. Turning your golden years into years of separation and fear. What could be worse than not recognizing the ones you love, not remembering your home and the things you love most? Living in a world of confusion and fear.

The latest research looks to confirm that grains are connected to these afflictions. Also implicated are sugars and certain food additives such as fructose. The Mayo Clinic released a study this year that stated that a high carbohydrate diet is 3.6 times more likely to lead to cognitive disorders than low carb diets. What may seem odd is that a diet higher in fats was 42% less likely to lead to these disorders than diets low in fat.

Dr. David Perlmutter is a neurologist and president of the Perlmutter health center in Florida. He is the author of a recent book called “Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar-Your Brain's Silent Killers.” This book describes in detail the effects of grains and its relationship to cognitive disorders.

There is growing evidence that Alzheimer's may be a third type of diabetes. All of this is particularly disturbing considering the average US diet is over 60% carbs.

Now none of this is written in stone. There are many different studies, different doctors and certainly different books. However, there is definitely growing new evidence that carb overload is responsible for many different diseases, including obesity, which is a condition in itself.

So if we put it all together we find that there is a huge rise in obesity, a relationship between carbs, grains and disease like diabetes, as well as increasing evidence that other disease like Alzheimer's seems to be often connected to too many carbs.

So you see where this is going. You may think the Paleo diet sounds crazy. Certainly some of its supporters make it seem crazy, but … it is a diet that advocates low carbs, no grains, low sugar and abstaining from foods with preservatives. When you look at much of the latest evidence, you will probably come to the conclusion that it is not so crazy after all. Chances are good that in the near future you will see more evidence online, on television or in magazines or news to make you think again about Paleo. Add to all of this the testimonials and success that people are having with Paleo.

Paleo is not only about losing weight. It is about feeling better and enjoying your life more. It's about decreasing your chances of acquiring terrible diseases and disorders. Keep an eye out for more news about research about diet and disease, and most likely you will at one point or another, think about giving Paleo a serious try.

Beating the Calories With Wise Dieting

How important is your diet for weight loss?

Your diet is the cornerstone of your quest for weight loss. You should not rely solely on exercise when it comes to torch fat because it is your diet that has the largest impact on your weight.

Certified fitness trainers, despite the nature of their work, agree that exercise only accounts for 15% -20% of the total effort needed to achieve a weight loss goal. The remaining 80% -85% of the income depends on what you eat every day.

Every meal and every snack counts!

A single meal will not make you overweight … But a month's worth junk food can affect your weight. There is a significant relationship between what you regularly eat and your present weight trend. There are 3 kinds of weight trends: static or unchanging, upward and downward.

How much weight will drop off when you start eating healthy foods?

Ideally, you would modify your diet so that you are on a consistent downward trend. A total weight loss of 1 pound a week is considered healthy and sustainable.

2 pounds per week is considered the higher average for men and women. If you are already dropping as much as 2 pounds a week, do not be tempted to overdo your dieting and workouts. Too much physical exertion can be bad for you.

What are the best ways to lose weight through your diet?

The Caloric Deficit – Your daily caloric deficiency will determine how much weight will come off in a week or month. One pound of body weight is equivalent to 3,500 calories.

To lose 1 pound per week you need to have a deficit of 500 calories every day. There are 2 ways to produce your daily / weekly calorie deficiency goal: through exercise or through dieting.

I highly recommend that you create the deficit by using both weight loss components equally.

Try reducing your daily caloric intake by 250 calories and then work out at home or in the gym to burn off another 250 calories or so. This way, you will not be press to exercise or reduce your food intake too much.

If you can only manage to create a caloric deficiency of 200 calories or less, do not be discouraged. We all experience low points during our weight loss journeys. The important thing is that you stay motivated and you make an effort to bounce back so you can start losing that weight!

Avoid Hidden Sugars – Refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup are commonly added to commercial foods and beverages as sweeteners. You will be shocked at how much sugar manufacturers put in their products. A small cupcake can have as much as 24 grams of sugar!

High fructose corn syrup is becoming even more common in food because it's cheaper to produce than sugar, which is derived from sugarcane.

Simple carbohydrates like refined sugar and HFCS are to be avoided as often as possible because they bog down your metabolism and also affect how your body responds to insulin.

Insulin is a natural hormone in our bodies that facilitates the absorption and utilization of blood glucose. How your body responds to insulin has a direct impact on your metabolism.

Excess sugar in your diet (especially in the form of HFCS) has been shown to cause some degree of insulin resistance , which affects how your body responds to excess blood sugar.

Refuel with Vegetables & Fruit – Hunger is an old enemy that often beats even the toughest ladies. When hunger pangs are not addressed properly, you may feel fatigued and cranky.

This can affect your mind regarding exercising and further dieting. To avoid this scenario, increase your consumption of vegetables and have fresh fruit to sweeten the deal.

Protein-rich vegetables like white beans and lentils are excellent “hunger busters” as they provide a moderate amount of carbohydrates in addition to lots of protein.

Plant proteins can help stop hunger pains and keep you focused on your calorie deficiency goals. Green leafy vegetables on the other hand, are naturally high in dietary fiber which helps fill up the stomach when digested.

How much fruit can you eat?

There is a general belief that you can eat as much fruit as you want because it's wholesome, natural food. Fruits are great in making a diet balanced and nutritious.

However, keep in mind that many fruits are high in natural fruit sugars and they can pack a lot of calories in every serving. Eat only a small quantity of fruits per day to benefit from the nutrients. Save the rest for tomorrow!

Salt Lake City Tacothon (Cheat Day on My Diet in Preparation for a Muay Thai Fight)

In preparation for a Muay Thai fight, I have been on a diet the past few weeks, and have enjoyed some pretty good results. The beauty of the diet I am on, is that it allows a cheat day once a week. The cheat day actually encourages you to go absolutely bonkers for 14 hours each week.

There is some science behind it, but that is fodder for another post.

I have been craving tacos the past few weeks, so I decided to organize a Tacothon.

The promise behind the Tacothon was to root out the BEST tacos in Salt Lake City.

I invited a few friends along, (Many of them are MMA Fighters or Muay Thai students) and this is what we found:

I wanted to begin the day with 'Fast Food' tacos. We have all been there … late at night, hunger strikes … waddya gunna do? There is nothing tastier after a night of drinking than a few tacos … that is if you can get through the drive through without getting into fist fight with other late night Taco Lovers.

I should point out that we conducted this Tacothon on a Sunday (My designated CHEAT DAY). Taco Time, as well as many other highly recognized Taco places, were closed on the Sabbath.

FAST FOOD

I picked up a party pack from both Taco Bell and Del Taco.

I went to my gym, where I met up with my fellow Tacothaners and ate some tacos.

It was nice to see some of them, as I have not been the most social person the past few months as I have been recovering from knee surgery.

We busted open the party packs and brave them a try. The Taco Bell Party pack had 12 tacos in it, and cost just over $ 15.00. The Del Taco had 10 tacos, but was almost half the price.

The Del Taco tacos were literally the the size of Taco Bell's though and failed miserably on the taste test.

Taco Bell wins by a unanimous decision.

TACO TRUCKS

Next, we decided to try out the famous Taco Trucks that so many people talk about on State Street in downtown Salt Lake City.

There are two in the Sears parking lot at 800 South State Street, and two one block South at 900 South State Street.

The first one we visited faces South (Toward 800 South) in the Sears Parking lot. Compared to the 'Fast Food' we had just indulged in, it was Heaven on Earth. Very tasty tacos, and cost $ 1.00 apiece.

The other faces East (Toward State Street). We asked each to serve us their best Taco. This truck recommended the Cabeza, and it did not disappoint. VERY tender meat, and super delicious … VERY GOOD!

The third truck we visited Faces East (Toward State Street) on 900 South. They were just OK. By far, the worst of the four trucks we visited.

The final truck we visited faced South on 900 South. We have a winner. These were some of the tastiest tacos I have ever tasted. Hands down the winner of the Taco Trucks. The name of the truck is El Rey Del Taco. Give them a try.

All of the trucks were consistent on price. They all charged $ 1.00 per taco, served them on small soft tortillas, and had a similar array of condiments. The El Rey Del Taco also had the best salsa of the four trucks we visited.

If you are hankering for a taco, and do not want to deal with the hassle of going to a restaurant, check out the Taco Trucks downtown. Try the different trucks for yourself. At a buck a taco, you can not go wrong.

RESTAURANTS

As I mentioned before, we made our Taco Adventure on Sunday, so many of the places that were recommended to us were not open. As far as I'm concerned, you do not deserve a mention if you do not serve on Sunday anyway.

The first restaurant we visited was Taqueria 27. They have two locations, but we visited the downtown location. It was very clean and upscale. Had a very professional wait staff, and a good selection of tacos and drinks.

I had Bloody Maria, which was super good, and the Duck Confit Taco, which was recommended by our waiter. It was a very tasty taco, and I fully understand what all the fuss is about. I really liked this place, and would recommend you give it a try.

The second restaurant we visited did not serve alcohol, and was more of a traditional Mexican restaurant. It was named Taqueria El Rey De Oros. There were a lot of families there, and none of them were speaking English. The tacos were, in my opinion the second best tacos we ate at restaurants … very good! I enjoyed a Crema Churro there as well, that was out of this world.

Next we went right up the street to Red Iguana 2. We tried to make a reservation at these restaurants as we had 13 people in our group, and did not want to be too much of an impossition on the wait staff. We were told they did not take reservations when we called on the phone.

Upon arriving at Red Iguana 2, we saw a lot of people waiting to get in. When we approached the hostess, we were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait.

We decided it would be worth the wait, so we went to the back of the restaurant to the bar and ordered some drinks. I told the manager what we were doing, and asked if it would be possible to just have 13 tacos brought out to us at the bar, and we would not make them set a table for all of us. He told us that would be impossible, we would have to wait for our table. There was a large table that was vacant, and I asked him about it. He said it had been reserved by another group. (I thought they did not take reservations ???)

An hour and a half later, we finally got separated. It took another half an hour before we got our drinks. By that time, most of our group was tired, and had lost the mojo to finish the Tacothon. Red iguana 2 was a complete BUZZ KILL, and frankly their food was average at best. It was bottom of the list as far as tacos went, but some of that might have been a result of the bad taste we all had in our mouths by the way they lied to us about a 20-25 minute wait that ended up being 2 hours, and the fact that we were unable to reserve a table, while others could.

In a complete contrast to Red Iguana 2, allow me to give you my HIGHEST recommendation for El Paisa in West Valley City. Unfortunately, most of our group did not make it to El Paisa because of the shitty service we got at Red Iguana, but those who did … LOVED IT.

El Paisa is as authentic Mexican as it gets. You'd better brush up on your Rosetta Stone Spanish classes if you want to come here, and be ready to feel like you just stepped off the plane in Puerto Vallarta.

Live Mexican Music and a real Mexican clown are the first things you will find here. (We left right before the music started, but they were setting up for a show while we were there). Sunday is their big day … unlike the other places we visited.

The wait staff is super friendly and despite the language barrier, really make you feel at home.

The specialty at El Paisa is a Molcaheta Supreme, which is a large ceramic pot filled with onions, bell peppers, beef, chicken, shrimp, and cheese. You make your own tacos out of the contents of the pot, and the table shares the pot.

These were BY FAR the most delicious tacos of the day, and that is coming from a group of people who were pretty much sick of tacos by this point. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is unlike any other Mexican restaurant you will visit in SLC, and you will be glad you paid them a visit. Everything is reasonably priced, and you will not walk out of there hungry.

All in all, the Tacothon was a smashing success. My gut is busting at the seams. I got to spend some time with some old friends, and had a great time. I; m not sure this is an optimal diet for a typical Muay Thai or Mixed Martial Arts training camp, but it was fun. Thanks to all who participated, and happy tacoing!

What Is The Paleo Diet?

The term paleo diet is synonymous with the caveman diet or Paleolithic diet. From the terms, it is clear that the paleo diet is primarily the diet that the Paleolithic human used to consume in the past. It is often touted as the healthiest diet since it discourages the use or consumption of processed foods in addition to the new foods that people stated eating after the Neolithic man. The Paleolithic man's diet was basically made up of meat, fruits, and roots. As the saying goes 'if a caveman dint eat, you should not eat it too'.

During the Paleolithic man period, people were hunters and gathers. The concept of farming had not been developed yet. As such, people hunted in the forests for meat while also gathering nuts, fruits and roots. The Paleolithic man was viewed as being stronger, taller and muscular compared to the present day man. Health experts argument that the change in diet as man developed due to agriculture and industrialization led to the consumption of processed food instead of the original caveman diet. As a result, the present man is often easily afflicted with ailments in addition to being weak. This can be attributed to the fact that the human body did not adapt fully to digesting the foods and grains we currently eat.

The diet is seen as the answer to the weight problem befalling the United States of America. Today, approximately 60% of the global population is overweight while 33% are viewed as being obese. Further, the change in diet has led to a large number of people globally suffering from diseases such as diabetes and cancer. It is vital to note that these statistics are continuing to get worse day by day. This is a clear indication that the present day diet is wrong and harmful to people. Thus, there is a need to revert back to the paleo (caveman) diet.

The diet excludes many products that make up today's sugar such as salt, dairy products, processed foods grains, vegetable oils and sugar. The exclusion of these three products from an individual's diet has a significant impact in reducing the likelihood of contracting lifestyle diseases.

So, what makes the paleo diet?

The paleo diet is made up of fruits, vegetables, lean meats nuts, seeds and roots, seafood and healthy fats. Healthy fats can be obtained from seeds, nuts, avocado, and fish oil.

If adopted, the diet is beneficial to people. Some of the advantages of embracing a paleo diet include; it reduces the likelihood of diabetes by stabilizing the blood sugar levels, enabling an individual to shed off excess or stored fat, and leads to a reduction in allergies. Also, a paleo diet helps to improve a person's sleep patterns. These benefits illustrate the significance for the adoption of a paleo diet.

Paleo diet's advice to avoid eating processed foods and sugars is supported by modern studies which have found a link between processed food and sugars, and gain gain or lifestyle diseases.

In conclusion, a paleo diet has a positive impact on the life of people.

Your Health Starts Here: Enrich Your Well Being – Eat Better Food

All of this starts at the moment you go shopping. Shopping smart is the beginning for better health. What you do not buy or bring home you can not eat. There you have your choice, it can become a lower weight shopping basket, or a lower blood pressure or an anti arthritis shopping basket etc. These are our choices, everything has a beginning in life, such as good health, bad health, and how we manage it. Most of the time these are our own choices. It is known through numerous researchers that food can become our medicine and food becomes our healer.

But there is also another link to a healthy body – your mind, because mind over matter matters. That's right, your mind. It's called the mind-body connection. In a nutshell, what you believe in your mind can influence things in your body. Anxiety can make any illness worse or is even the starting point of it. Anxiety can make pain feel worse, lower defences and immune system that allows any virus or illness take hold and can aid in raising your blood pressure. A simple act of relaxing can do wonders for your health which is all part of the mind and body connection.

Combination Of Health And Well Being

Using the power of positive thinking and relaxation techniques including healthy eating will certainly help with any treatment of illness. Because of high depletion in food it is more important now than ever before to make the right choices when it comes to your diet. Your body can only stay healthy when it gets all the right nutrients it needs and all of that comes from the food we buy and prepare. But you may say: I'm taking my vitamins every day. Which are totally useless if your diet is not right in the first place. The body's health reacts from many things which include all the minerals and vitamins that must work with each other; one or two on own own will have no positive effect.

The many fast foods which have become a quick, lazy and cheap way to have a meal does not give the body what it needs to stay healthy. Denying your body the right food that includes good nutrients for a long time will without any doubt become a serious health issue. To have a healthy body means having a diet rich in many mineral and vitamins every day and not just on occasions.

Medical research has discarded literally thousands of healing nutrients in foods. One type of phytonutrient found in vegetables has been known reducing cancer and other illnesses by as much as 44 percent. Many vegetables contain a substance called carotenoids; as well beta carotene, lutein and lycopene are all different varieties of carotenoids. They all have a strong amount of antioxidants that help the body fight disease.

Case Histories Of Remarkable Healing

Nature provides us with its remarkable healing power. Unfortunately, in many cases this was ignored not only because of disbelieve but more often because of lack of knowledge. There always be different opinions as well as disbelieves and wrong information. Many people continue to suffer from misguided wrong advice over the last several decades and still leading to poor health today. Some unscientific bureaucrats still have this return status that healthy food could have the power to prevent a number of chronic diseases, as well as obesity.

Although there is overwhelming scientific evidence that just the opposite is the case. It comes down to what you eat; you can trace every disease and illness to a mineral and vitamin deficiency. Even at the lowest level of deficiency in various nutrients will alter your body's immunity and blood levels. The problem here is it has become harder to select a nutrient rich diet. The quality in our vegetables and fruits has reduced on average around 40 to 50 percent since the seventies because depletion of soil and the use of artificial fertilizers.

The healing powers are found in different vitamins and minerals such as zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium; these are just some of the many our body needs a percent of every day and not just some times. Using supplements to overcome any shortfall, select carefully, many being made from synthetics and not natural ingredients.

Successful Diets

Successful Diets and Why Most Diets are Doomed to Failure

Is there a reason why some people go on successful diets while the majorities are doomed to failure? The reason most diets are doomed to failure at the outside could be because of a simple mistake. This simple mistake is made by millions of people worldwide; millions of people, who have no idea why they struggle, week after week, while others seem to do well and achieve their goals.

No doubt you've been there, we probably all have. I was one of those people who made this simple mistake, the mistake that stopped me from losing any significant, or meaningful, weight without a gargantuan struggle. It was not until I understood, really understood, the very literal way the subconscious mind, the part that runs our body, reacts to the way we think and speak, that I stopped making it.

If you've ever been on a successful diet in the past you somehow avoided making the mistake and that's why you succeeded. Then, if you put the weight back on again, and most people do, and you went back on the original successful diet, only to find it did not work this time, you made the simple mistake.

The Simple Mistake that Stops Successful Diets in their Tracks

So, what is the simple mistake made by millions of unsuspecting dieters? The simple mistake they make is, they 'go on a diet,' or, 'start a diet' and when they're going on a diet 'that's what they get,' a diet. ' What is a diet? Everyone who has ever been on a diet or on lots of diets knows what a diet is for them; this information is already downloaded into their subconscious mind.

For most people diets are hard, they combine deprivation, calorie counting and denial. When you go 'on a diet' you will get all that, and whatever else a diet means to you, and that may be all you'll get, because going on a diet is as foolish as going on a journey.

Imagine setting off in your car, 'on a journey,' without a destination? A journey means traveling and so you would, on this journey, just drive round and round. You've got to fill up with fuel every so often and probably you sleep in the car. The journey would go on until you decided on a destination. However, the idea of anyone being foolish enough to do that is so bizarre that you can not imagine any sane person setting off on a 'journey.'

Going, 'on a diet' without a final destination is just a crazy, for the same reason going on a journey without a destination is mad. When you get up to go somewhere, you have to have a destination in mind, do not you? Even if it's just the kitchen or the toilet you are going to, you have to direct your actions. That's why, simply going 'on a diet' is utter madness yet that is what hundreds of thousands of other intelligent people are doing, worldwide, every day.

On their 'diet' they turn down cake and treats, they count calories, cut out carbs, and increase exercise and then, when the diet does not work they tell themselves they lack the willpower needed to succeed. Yet, what if, just what if, it was not so much the lack of willpower but the lack of a final destination that was creating the problem? Your subconscious mind will take you unerringly towards the focus of you attention, if your attention is on 'diet,' then 'diet' it is.

You'll never get slim by going on a 'diet' but you may get slim if you 'diet' to reach your goal of your ideal size and weight and that's what successful doctors do.

I help people to create their final destination and give them tools to keep it in mind, and keep walking towards it, until they come there. Successful diets seem to be out of the reach of most people but they are no longer need to be for you.

Want Success? Don’t Set Goals, Do This Instead!

Goal setting, exactly what is it?

1. You say you want to achieve (goal) something

2. You set a date or time in which to achieve it

3. You write out a plan of action

4. You follow that plan of action and …

5. You FAIL to achieve the designated goal

Why?

The plan was flawed from the get-go.

Kind of like wanting to “fall in love with someone” because you want to be in love. You join dating services and social sites and meet people but never “fall in love”. Why? Because you want to fall in love for the sake of being in love or because you think falling in love will make you happy. You see “other people” seemingly in love and you want to be like them.

Well it does not work that way.

There is no “vision”, no feeling, and no true mental desire for true happiness. There was just a goal that you think will bring you happiness.

You see when I first started into bodybuilding I followed (to a tee) all the diets and weight lifting programs of the champions and for four straight years I failed, went now and actually lost weight and muscle size. I looked at the physiques of “other people” and thought that if I looked like them I would be happy.

Then one day I had a vision. It was a mental “vision” of how I wanted to look and how I wanted to “feel” about myself. It was NOT a “goal” but a vision with feeling. I stopped following the lifestyle of diet and training that I had been implementing during the previous four years.

I quit it all and then I did this.

Just envisioned the way I wanted to look and feel about myself.

In my mind's eye I created the “perfect me.”

From there on, just like magic, I created the right diets and training programs that worked for “me!”

Mistake # 1 for Diet and Training

It happens every year.

Get in shape, a New Year's resolution. Lose fat, gain muscle and feel great.

So the person does this;

1. Sets a goal to lose weight and put on muscle

2. Finds or creates a weight lifting workout program

3. Finds or creates a weight loss muscle building diet

4. Starts the program on a Monday, let's say January 3rd

5. By January 9th they do not feel energetic but lost a couple pounds

6. By January 16th they are starting to feel worn-out and losing strength

7. By January 23rd they say they felt better when they were not on a diet

8. By January 30th they may start getting physically worn out and getting sick or feeling under the weather

9. By February 7th they start to fall off the diet and miss some workout days because they lack energy and feel sluggish

10. By the end of February 92% of the people who started a diet and workout program have called it quits.

11. By the end of April 96% of the people who started a diet and workout program have called it quits and many have actually gained weight!

Why? What was the cause?

1. The weight lifting program they followed was not progressive for their body-type

2. The diet plan they followed was not nutrient balanced for their personal metabolic needs

This happens every year. Over-trained and under-nourished equals failure, it can not end in any other way.

Do not believe me? Just secretly observes the people you know who are on a diet and training program and watch what happens. The time frame may change a little but the end result will be the same, guaranteed.

Think about it my friend

Healthy, Healing Comfort Food You Will Love

What food makes you feel satisfied and satisfied? Is it cookies? Ice Cream? Mashed potatoes? Or maybe just Macaroni and Cheese. How about all of the above? Yum!

You can have most comfort food that tastes just as rich and delicious, and is just as satisfying as the traditional version or even more, but in its healthiest, even healing, form. How is that possible? Simply substitute ingredients that will create a similar look and texture, but with even more flavor. For example, if your favorite comfort food recipe starts with butter, use ghee, or clarified butter. You can find it in the international section of nearly every health food store, or on-line. If you're very industrious, you can make your own.

In place of sugar, use whole leave stevia extract (health store or on-line), which can actually help the pancreas, from what I hear. How to get it to taste more like sugar? Add fruit to the recipe. For example, baking a cake with unsweetened apple sauce plus stevia.

Need to replace an unhealthy thickener? Use the same amount of Kuzu Root or Arrowroot powder. Kuzu root is said to be good for the stomach.

Use mineral-rich salts such as pink Himalayan Sea Salt or red Hawaiian salt. Yummy flavors!

Replace cow's milk products with goat milk, or for vegans, use coconut milk for sweet recipes, and cashew cream for savory (soak cashews in water till they absorb it all and blend in blender).

Pasta-lovers try this for a change -julienned zucchini, which actually has a bit of flavor, as opposed to pasta, which tastes completely bland by itself. See recipe below for ideas.

Of course you should always check with your doctor if you have any health concerns at all.

Mac and Cheese for All!

Ingredients Per Person :

1 cup combination green and / or yellow zucchini, cut into “macaroni” size slices (julienne-style- thick)

Te teaspoon Salt

Te teaspoon Kuzu or Arrowroot powder (health store)

1 Tablespoon purified Water

1 teaspoon Ghee (clarified butter- health store), OR Butter, OR for vegans, High Heat Oil of choice

C cup grated Cheddar or other Cheese of choice. I recommend goat cheddar for healing ingredient. For Vegans / dairy-free , use Almond Cheese or other of choice.

Directions:

1. Sautee 'Zucchini in Ghee or Oil, adding Salt. (Medium heat)

2. Melt Kuzu in Water while Zucchini cooks.

3. When Zucchini cooked to your liking, add grated Cheese, stirring while it melts.

4. Add Kuzu / Water mix and stir quickly until it thickens.

Variations: Add tomato bits, fresh or sundried, sausage of choice, herbs of choice such as dill or rosemary, other meats or cheeses. Vegans, add sprouted or toasted nuts or seeds.

Three Ways to Have Fun and Avoid Weight-Gain on a Gluten-Free Diet

Once upon a time a woman who adored her cookies and cakes found out that she was much better off without them. How sad her life seemed as she looked for alternatives to gluten. The gluten-free cookies, cakes, and mixes were extremely high in carbohydrates like tapioca starch, bean flours, potato starch, and rice flour, the highest-glycemic level grain there is! You see, she was also border-line hypoglycemic and certainly did not want to become diabetic on top of everything else.

Oh what to do, what to do? She loved to bake and eat her sweets, so she used her creative imagination to come up with recipes made from almond meal flour before anyone (including her) had ever heard of it. She ground almonds in her blender and became braver and bolder each time she experimented with precious, food-stained recipes handed down from her mother. Her favorite was carrot cake and so she spent years perfecting it, including making a dairy-free “cream-cheese” icing recipe for her friends that could not handle the cow milk products.

Many years of experimentingrought her (me J) to a few successfully-slimming food conclusions:

1. For Flours – Lower the carbohydrates level by using almond meal flour and any seed or nut flours in all baking. Not that quinoa and amaranth are considered seeds, which is why they are higher in protein than other grains. Dry flours, like coconut flour and amaranth flour will absorb moisture from “wetter” flours like quinoa. Find the balance you need for the recipe.

2. For Sweetening – Lower the carbs and sugars even more by using just a little fruit (not fructose or fruit sugars, but real fruit, and avoid dates – much too sweet) and add as much whole-leaf Stevia (either the ground green leaf or the dark liquid extract for a happier pancreas) or whatever non-sugar sweetener you can handle.

3. For Flavor – Use the finest herbs, spices, and flavorings you can find. You are worth it! And keep the herbs and spices in the freezer. I keep them in the freezer door, easy to grab when I'm cooking. They stay fresh and delicious. Also, use plenty of good, healthy oils and fats. Clarified butter (can buy as ghee in international section of health stores) works wonders for flavor (chef's secret!).

Happy Note: You can use any of the above ideas with pretty much any recipe. I did notice that for pie crusts I had to add an egg. For cookies, take them out. Who knew? Again, many years of experimenting.

Enjoy your experiments and viva la difference!
